My Story My Song, An Endeavor That Needs To Grow

You start your evening out in Las Vegas with a fun, amazing night with singer/songwriters at Nashville Unplugged. Then you hear of a story that leads you to another event that definitely would warm your heart, but yet tug on those heartstrings. Enter My Story My Song.
Under the umbrella of a wonderful local foundation, Share In The JOY, which is dedicated to restoring the internal balance trauma distrupts in children who have been impacted by foster care, domestic violence & housing instability. They do this by creating opportunities for connection, contribution, and belonging.
The concept came about after a meeting in 2025 between Executive Director & Founder, Chris Duhrkoop and singer/songwriter Aaron Benward, of the Country Duo Blue County. Putting two brain trusts together was a smart move and together they created something to be proud of. On June 20th, I had the honor of attending a second session of songwriters who met with children that were part of the system as they conveyed their stories into songs. The strength of these young adults were lessons learned in fighting, overcoming very rough roads and in many ways teaching you how to come out on top.
I will share some videos of my time spent with these amazing young kids and the songwriters. I I am so glad I had an extra kleenex in my purse. Thank you Chris for the invite and thank you Aaron for your part in making this happen. We only can hope this road leads to more sessions not only in Las Vegas, but state wide and across the country. So PLEASE feel free to share this, in the hopes the vision of moving forward can become a reality.
